The page of Steph meeting Bernard looks like it was written by aliens who have no concept of how human relationships work.Īlso, in regards to reader interpretation with TimCon- DC did put out a whole thing about Robin and queer coding/baiting. It’s nebulous and very tell not show- with Bernard seemingly just existing to make Tim happy (by Tim just saying he’s happy with him) not actually question or push him like a normal partner would. I saw someone say once the Tim/Bernard is a gay ship written for straight people and that’s extremely apt imho. What most upsets me about the Bernard ship is it sets Tim and Steph back and is very unnaturally written in characterization with regards to all three of them. Dude was declaring love for her after all. Personally my favorite ship for Tim is Steph. I get why you have preferences with those other ships, but Bernard as a ship I don’t understand. I’ve seen the panels, I’ve heard the arguments and everything, I can see why someone comes to that conclusion but I’m just not a fan of that pairing. I just don’t think there’s much there other than they’re best friends with an extremely close bond. With exceptions based on quality of story. I think it’s generally more interesting when heroes are with normal people. I much prefer Superman-Lois, Batwoman-Maggie, Diana-Steve, and I’d prefer Tim-Bernard to Tim-Conner. I do like him with Starfire but I feel that was earned. I generally don’t like Nightwing/Oracle, I’ve never liked his stuff with Huntress either. I detested Superman/Wonder Woman, absolutely hated every single second of it. I generally think any superhero getting with another is fanfic-y. It’s not something that was hinted at, they just picked a guy from Tim’s past and basically rewrote everything about him (not much there) to fit this new idea. I think their lack of thought about the situation is proven by the relationship with Bernard. I think they wanted something for Tim Drake and wanted to get some representation amongst the Robins since they’re all straight white guys up to this point. This just my opinion, I’m not gonna die on this hill but I just don’t think DC was thinking of the young Justice stuff that everyone points to. And actually push Jason into a space of tactical leader that will kill a mf to keep his team safe Grant can fill the team hothead space that has some issues with his dad for once. Zoe can be a scout or sniper that both boys are trying to keep our of fights while they fill a Melee role. My brain love the idea of Jason teaming up with idk, a returned to life Grant Wilson that is avoiding his family, a Zoe lawton maybe.īecause theres legit so much more ya can do with that. But i just really dont like Artemis or Biz. I did like Jasons empathic side being shown more. It felt like the writer where to busy trying to make a "edgy trinity" than actual build a team of people that have good chemistry together. And him working with Lawton sounds cool as hell!īut we got generic angry manchild and edgy boi swearing. Because it could have been a great time to show off all his skills.
